Volunteer Registration

Before you undertake any volunteer work with the Foundation or out on the Trail you must be registered.

The benefits of registering are:

  • Volunteer insurance coverage.
  • Helps us identify your individual interests and skills and match you with volunteer positions.
  • Helps us notify you of up and coming volunteer events and opportunities.
  • Enables us to forward personal data to emergency agencies if an incident was to occur.
  • Eligible for the Foundation & DEC rewards scheme.

To become a trail volunteer you must:

  • Submit a Volunteer Registration form to the Foundation.
  • Wait for confirmation from the Foundation.
  • Nominate for your desired activity/s, once your registration has been confirmed.
  • Record and submit quarterly (at least) hours and any relevant trail maintenance reports.

Please note:

  • While the preferred age for volunteer registration is 16 years and above, children under 16 years may be accepted at the discretion of the Volunteer Coordinator and DEC; depending on the nature of the task, the environment and the risks associated. A child’s registration form will only be accepted if the parent / guardian of the child have co-signed and have accepted to supervise their participation at all times.
  • It is not a requirement to be a paid member of the Foundation to be a volunteer. However as a paid member you will have access to a range of event and merchandise discounts and a Foundation newsletter three times a year.
  • It is highly unlikely any insurance claim would be successful if the above guidelines were not followed

Confirmation and Placement

Once your registration is accepted by the Foundation you will be sent a welcome message via email or by post with:

  • A Volunteer Orientation Handbook with timesheets
  • A security login that enables you to nominate for events and training, input your volunteer hours online and keep your contact details up to date.

Recording Your Hours

Once you have completed your volunteer time it is important to log your hours so that the Foundation has an accurate record and so that you are eligible for rewards and benefits. When logging your hours remember the following:

  • To include travel time in your hours (except in the cases of Board and sub-committee meetings)
  • To log your hours in a timely fashion; rewards are distributed quarterly based on the hours logged

Please note: The Foundation’s website has a high level of SSL security. All volunteer details are held in secure remote electronic data storage and backed up daily.
